WHY BECOME A BUDDY?

  • Opportunity to meet and build friendships with students from around the world

  • Become part of a global community

  • Gain insight on different cultural values and world views

  • Reduce effects of reverse cultural shock when returning from study abroad

BUDDY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate with exchange students via email or Facebook once a week before their arrival, answering any questions the exchange students may have and providing general suppport

  • Meet your buddies during International Student Orientation Week

  • Help exchange students get settled into their new apartment, or in help in setting up living arrangements till they can set up something more permanent

  • Assist the exchange students, when possible, by taking them shopping for groceries and other necessary items

  • Answer basic questions about student life and introduce exchange students to Texas A&M

  • Participate in IBA events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Texas A&M student

  • Completed required buddy orientation

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong communication skills

  • Genuine interest in helping people

  • Respect for differences in religious & political beliefs

  • Active member of IBA
